LEIGH Centurions have added another name to their playing roster.

Australian half back Michael Dengate has now signed up.

Dengate initially trained with Centurions during their first week back in training before agreeing to play for Hemel Stags, but he could not settle down south.

Rowley said: “Michael asked for an opportunity. He’ll jump in with our under 20s and battle it out for a place.

“He won’t get a squad number at this stage but if he shows up well, he will get an opportunity.

“We like the lad. We certainly like his attitude and he’s shown some touches in training. There is no reason why he can’t fulfil his ambitions.”

Dengate, an unknown to many British Rugby League fans, was playing in the Illawarra Coal League.

Over the past three seasons he has made 36 first-team appearances for the Thirroul Butchers, grabbing nine tries and three goals.

He joins Jake Emmitt in signing up with Centurions over the past week.

Emmitt, on the other hand, is already well known to Leigh fans having scored eight tries in 13 appearances.

He has rejoined the club that he last played for in 2010 after a season at Salford and previously more than 50 appearances for Castleford Tigers.

“This was a bit of a natural progression to be honest,” Rowley said.

“I’ve been aware of Jake’s situation for a couple of months. We always said that we’d be there for him if he became free.

“We knew that there was some Super League interest but his first choice was always us and this was me keeping my promise to him. He is a quality player and was popular here last time.

“He’s 25 now which is a good age and is coming back with experience.”

Emmitt has been allocated number 29 in the squad list.
