IT has been a busy period for Tyldesley Swimming Club after a highly successful 2013.

Three water polo players have been called to represent the North West in the academy inter-region competition in Walsall.

Stephanie Whittaker, Emmie Rose Eastwood and Emily Gaskell gained selection after three training sessions at Lancaster, Manchester and Liverpool Whittaker, Eastwood and Thea Simpson are travelling to cardiff this weekend as part of the English Talent Programme.

Grace Rowland, Hayley Price, Robyn Mclean and Cameron Gallagher are also in Cardiff this weekend as part of the English Talent under 18s squad.

Meanwhile, Tyldesley swimmers won 12 goal medals, seven silver and six bronze at the Wigan Swimming Development Gala.

At Tyldesley’s annual presentation night, Mckenzie Lancaster won the Ryan Heywood Trophy for the most valuable water polo player during 2013 - a year in which the club won Wigan Sports Awards Club of the Year, The Central Lancashire Senior Swimming League and the Central Lancashire Women’s Water Polo League.

Also, they were runners up in the Central Lancashire Intermidiate League, while the junior swim team were fourth in the Central Lancashire Jubilee A Final and Adam Toone was runner up for Sports Achiever of the Year at the Wigan Sports Awards.

At the club swimming championship, records were broken by Jessica Sloan in the women’s open-age 200m freestyle and 100m freestyle. Adam Toone broke the men’s open-age 100m freestyle.

Jessica Sloan represented Lancashire in the inter-county competition, while Jodie Gittens and Imogen Bailey competed for Central Lancashire at the inter-association competition.

In water polo, Lauren Tasker featured for Great Britain’s under 20s at the world championships in Volos, Greece, while Tyldesley’s Leanne Stafford was the team’’s physiotherapist.

Lauren Tasker and Grace Morley represented GB’s under 17s team at the Junior Women’s ISPOLO Tournament in Bursa, Turkey, and at a tri-nations tournament in the final preparations for the European Championships, which they contested in Instanbul, Turkey.

Tyldesley Swimming Club also supported Leigh St Mary's High School in winning the English schools girls’ water polo tournament at under 18s and under 16s levels.
