ATHERTON Chess Club gained revenge for a 3½-5½ defeat away against Wigan with a 5½-½ win in the return fixture at home.
Only four players were available for the away match as the club struggles to find new players.
Although performing well in the Warrington and District Chess League First Division, both the second team and the first team in the Central Lancashire League languish near the bottom of their divisions.
If interested in playing for a chess team, call the club secretary on 01942 674013 or visit athertonchess.org.uk.
The club meet every Monday at the Atherton Arms at 7.30pm.
