LEIGH Cricket Club continues its preparations for the new Liverpool Competition Premiership season with the signing of all-rounder Hedley Molyneux from Highfield CC.

Seam bowler and potential game-changing batsman, Hedley has been through the local representative system as a junior and has a number of years’ Premiership experience under his belt.

He also recently completed a two-year cricket course at Preston’s Myerscough College run in conjunction with Lancashire CCC.

Leigh captain Mattie McKiernan said: “Hedley is a top signing for the club and has been brought in to cover the potential wickets lost by the departure of Richard Dempster.

“In addition he also gives us a genuine batting option in the middle order.

“I’ve played with Hedley on and off over a number of years and, on his day, seen him destroy many opponents’ hopes with both bat and ball.”

The Beech Walk outfit have also picked up further squad cover with the arrival of another Highfield old boy, Ryan Houseley, an off-spinning batsman, and Lewis Clarke, a hard-hitting batsman from Skelmersdale, who will also provide wicket-keeping cover across the senior teams.

The seniors are working hard every Sunday morning at Westleigh High School, 11am to 1pm, while juniors have just started their pre-season preparation at the same venue each Monday night.

Leigh are always on the lookout for anyone interested in either playing or getting involved in the game in whatever capacity.
