Leigh RUFC 7 Carlisle RUFC 25
LEIGH continued their struggles in the league, with another home defeat against an impressive Cumbrian outfit.
Leigh took first use of the wind on a stormy day, and were first on the scoreboard.
A strong catch and drive by the forwards led to a break from scrum half David Wood who found Peter Ince in support for a fine try.
Leigh continued to play well but were pegged back when the visitors kicked a penalty. Despite late pressure Leigh could not gain the second vital score before the break.
The second half saw the Carlisle forwards take control through the scrum, line-out, and driving maul.
Fly half Weightman kicked them into position, and three tries were adequate reward with two added conversions and a penalty.
Leigh as usual competed manfully, and gave total effort to the whistle, but on this day they were simply beaten by the better side.
