LEIGH Amateur Boxing Club’s England International Matty Burgess won his fifth straight North West ABA title on Saturday in the National Youth Championships.

Welterweight Burgess, who is also a three-weight North West region belt holder, unanimously beat the tough Jak Swarbrick of Preston-based Larches and Savick ABC.

Featherweight Jason Weir covered himself in glory despite losing on points to the current national champion William Cawley of Oldham ABC, pushing his far more experienced opponent all the way.

Despite a good start, lightweight Adam Ridge lost out on points to Jamie Devine of Manx ABC.
