LEIGH Sports Village will be hosting Kingstone Press Championship action every weekend of the season following confirmation that Swinton Lions will once again be playing their home matches at the venue.
Swinton are one of the most famous names in rugby league, and first moved to Leigh Sports Village in the 2012 season when plans to build their own ground were put on hold.
After narrowly avoiding relegation to Championship One last year, the Lions began this season with a tricky away fixture against Halifax last weekend.
Coach Ian Watson would not have been pleased at the 28-18 scoreline but his side, featuring Warrington Wolves’ winger Kevin Penny and Wales international Rhys Evans, did at least stick to their task and grabbed a bonus point - thanks in no small part to a memorable Penny try.
The season doesn’t get any easier for Swinton.
On Sunday they begin their home campaign at Leigh Sports Village with a fixture against last year’s Kingstone Press Championship Grand Final winners Sheffield Eagles.
It’ll be an early chance for rugby league fans to assess whether the Eagles are likely to feature heavily in the restructures planned for 2015.
Swinton Lions vs Sheffield Eagles kicks off at 3pm on Sunday.
