Trophy final

Littleborough RUFC 18 Leigh RUFC 22

LEIGH are bidding for success after reaching the Lancashire Trophy final.

Things began badly when experienced back row Graham Robinson limped off with an ankle injury to be replaced by Paul Trumble, but Leigh took the lead through Elliott Ryan’s penalty.

The hosts responded with a try, before Leigh hit back through Ryan, who converted his own try.

Prop Matt Newton was then awarded a try on the back of a driving maul and a late penalty for Littleborough saw Leigh lead 15-10 at the break.

Jimmy Wilkinson dummied to leave the last two defenders stranded and score a converted try.

Leigh suffered indiscipline as Paul Trumble and Ross Shepherd spent time in the bin late on.
