Colls hit Cheadle for six
9:22am Wednesday 2nd April 2014 in Sport
Atherton Colls 6 Cheadle Town 2
COLLS overcame a wretched start and committed opponents to break the 60-point barrier for the season.
Town took the lead on four minutes when overplaying at the back led to the ball going out of play.
From the resultant throw in the powerful Artjoms Buturions slotted home.
Colls had previously missed a gilt-edged chance to take the lead but Joe Evans could not get enough purchase on a pinpoint Mark Truffas free kick.
The equaliser came on 17 minutes Gareth Peet beat his defender and passed from the by-line for Mitch Leece to score.
With 10 minutes of the half remaining a fine Joe Evans pass put Leece clear and he scored his 12th of the campaign.
Colls then created another couple of chances but Colls debutant keeper Andy Hewitt also had to be alert on a number of occasions as the visitors searched for their second goal.
The second half started with Cheadle having the majority of possession and looking the more likely to score.
Then Colls clicked into gear and when Paul Atherton scored on 64th minutes with a fine shot from ten yards out the floodgates opened.
On 70 minutes he scored the goal of the game, he spotted the Town keeper off his line and his chip was perfection.
Charlie Stoker set up a Brad Cooke tap in, then Gareth Peet made it 6-1 with a goal from yards out after a goalmouth scramble.
This was in the 75th minute and an 11-minute four-goal salvo had sealed the points.
Buturions bagged his brace with a goal from inside the six yard box after his height and strength had caused problems at a corner.
It always seems to rain goals when Colls and Cheadle meet and this game was certainly no exception.
The explosive mid-second-half display from Colls was clinical although over 90 minutes the scoreline was a little harsh on Cheadle.
A great win and eleven goals in the last two games.
Hopefully this will give the black n white stripes impetus for the remainder of the season.
