Miners Ranger Alliance 22
Culcheth Eagles 12
MINERS Rangers Alliance side reached the second round of the North West Trophy with a hard-fought win in gloomy conditions against local rivals Culcheth Eagles.
The under 18s went down to a narrow home defeat to Orrell St James, 18-8.
The women’s team lost 18-4 at old rivals Wigan St Patricks although the game was overshadowed by a horrific injury sustained by Miners’ Catherine Watt.
The club would like to thank all support received on the day and particularly from Claire Mullaney and Jennifer Clarke-Pilling of Leigh East and Pats respectively, who assisted in the first aid for Catherine while awaiting the ambulance.
This weekend the first team return to action with a home fixture against Hunslet Warriors. Saturday, April 12, 2.30pm.
The two sides have already met in the Challenge Cup at the start of the season, with Miners edging a thriller, and while the Warriors have found it tough going thus far in their debut campaign at this level they have a fearsome reputation and will be stern opponents as Miners aim to continue their climb up the table.
The women’s team host West Craven on Sunday.
