LEIGH ended their league campaign in some style with an emphatic win in a high-scoring encounter.

The highlight for the home side was a seventeen-point haul from colt out-half Rob Drake.

The game started badly for Leigh when the visitors scored a long distance try with some ease.

The home side responded with tries from consistent second-row David Penn, and young winger Chris Mayren, plus a Drake penalty.

Wigton hit back with two converted tries to regain the lead, but Leigh had the final say in an entertaining first period.

Firstly, full-back Jimmy Wilkinson raced round the whole Wigton side before being high tackled in the act of scoring.

The referee quite rightly awarded the penalty try.

Then in the last play of the half, young prop Ethan Gornall plunged over to give Leigh a 27-21 lead at the break.

With the strong wind now behind them Leigh took complete control through dominant field position.

Following a simple game plan the Leigh forwards laid siege to the Wigton line.

The tries followed from David Wood, Rob Drake, skipper Calvin Crompton, and the outstanding Steve Millard.

Drake kicked five conversions in all to add to his try and penalty, and the visitors scored two consolation tries to end an entertaining game of rugby
