PRIOR to the game both teams held a minute’s silence in remembrance of Gwyn Pierce a former life and respected member of Tyldesley Swimming and Water Polo Club and the swimming world.

Gwyn was a qualified swimming teacher and previous club treasurer. He was involved with the club for more than 40 years and will be remembered by many swimmers.

Gwyn was honoured on several occasions by Wigan Borough Sports Council and was directly involved in keeping Tyldesley Swimming Pool open on two occasions.

The Bolton and District Water Polo League match started of at a furious pace with Tyldesley taking an early 4-1 lead within four minutes of the first quarter. By the end of the quarter Tyldesley were leading by 7 -5.

The second quarter was really tight with both teams scoring four goals each. Goals from Jonathan Stafford, two, John Fletcher and Rob Bond making the score at half time 11-9.

The third quarter was again an arm wrestle with both teams scoring five goals. Jonathan Stafford, two, Adam Toone, Dennis Price, Tyler Turner.

The score with three quarters of the match played was Tyldesley 16 Liverpool 14 The last quarter of the game saw Liverpool lose two players for committing their third personal foul. This weakened the Liverpool team giving Tyldesley the opportunity to win the quarter three goals to one and win the game.
