LEIGH Genesis enjoyed a successful day at the Wigan and District Youth Football League Cup finals.

First to play were the under 15s Transfomers, who faced champions Westhoughton Rangers.

In a pulsating end to end game both teams were thwarted by a combination of great defending and poor luck and even after extra time the score stood at 0-0.

Up stepped the Genesis penalty takers to despatch unstoppable shots, netting five from five.

Westhoughton struck home their first two but then goal keeper Owen Ord made a great save to win the cup for Transformers.

Next to play were under 13s Fusion against a very plucky and motivated Hindley Junior Tigers team.

Genesis took the lead from a Cain Nolan far post header only to concede a penalty to draw Tigers level.

Within two minutes Adam Cormican restored the lead for Genesis. As Tigers started to control the game they grabbed an equaliser only for Genesis to once again go in front with a superb 22 yard chip shot from Jordan Coates.

With time running out Tigers deservadely drew level after some poor Genesis defending.

With 20 minutes of extra time to play, Genesis rolled up their sleeves and dominated the remainder of the match with Jordan Coates, who latched onto a great through ball, drove hard into the box and steered the ball home to win the game 4-3.
