Leigh Miners Rangers 20 Wigan St Patricks 18

LEIGH Miners Rangers ended St Pats' unbeaten away record with a thrilling victory at Twist Lane.

The club celebrated the life of Miners legend Robert Dowling, including the unveiling of a number nine shirt which will forever bear his name.

Miners opened the scoring when Jonny Youds powered over and converted his own try, before a serious knee injury to Lee Gittens saw a lengthy stoppage.

Pats scored twice to go infront before Matt Astley, Tom Parkinson and Ellis Grimes made hard yards and Dave Rowlands capitalised on a spillage to level.

Standout player Shaun Dowie surged clear and put Andrew Groves over for his first of the season, Groves doubling his tally shortly after to put the hosts 20-12 up.

Ryan Smith threatened to haunt his old club after intercepting and sprinting home from deep inside his own half, but Leigh held on for victory.

The Alliance team won 18-13 at Rochdale Mayfield, while the under 18s lost 18-24 to Pilkington Recs.
