TEAM Leigh Boxing light middleweight Jimboy Price and bantamweight Josh Taylor both won the England Junior Championships NW Region title on Sunday afternoon in Walkden.

Jimboy was pushed hard by Burnley’s Regan Driver, but his aggressive all-action style gave him a unanimous points’ win, while Josh outclassed his opponent Elliott Crampton of Chorlton to take the title.

Jimboy and Josh join team mates, featherweight Lewis Ryder and middleweight Jordan Lewis as junior regional champions.

Light flyweight Joe Shinton unluckily went down by split decision in his first regional final.

Team Leigh let loose their youngsters THE past couple of weeks has seen a number of local youngsters make their Team Leigh debuts throughout the North of England and Wales.

In Timperley, 11-year-olds Patrick Price and Will Hewitt boxed well, while 11-year-old Isaac McDonagh in Chorlton and 12-year-old Callum Follows in Stockport, both added to their experience with skills bouts.

Appearing on the Maelor show in Wrexham, 10-year-olds Wes Holding and Adam Swanton impressed, while in Middleton 11-year-olds Connor Winstanley, Ben Follows and Ben Dawber all boxed well in skills bouts.

Josh Retains the North West Bantamweight Title Belt FOURTEEN-year-old Team Leigh boxer Josh Taylor successfully defended his North West Region Bantamweight Belt on Saturday afternoon in Chorlton, beating St Johns’ Elliott Crampton by unanimous decision.

Tony loses out in Stoke TEAM Leigh middleweight boxer Tony Boardman travelled to Stoke on Wednesday evening to take on home boxer Raife Plant of Orme Boxing Club.

In an entertaining bout Tony was quickly into the action scoring with fast combinations to take a first round lead.

Plant came back strongly in the second round to even things up, and with both boxers giving everything they had in the final round, the decision went to the judges, who gave the Orme boxer a close but fair points win.

Callum and Shaun Michael impressive in Burnley ON Friday evening Team Leigh Boxing's National Schoolboy semi finalists, 13-year-old Callum Ryder and 14-year-old Shaun Michael Varey, appeared on the Roche Show in Burnley, taking on opponents from the Heart of Devon Boxing Club.

Callum was in devastating form, stopping opponent Reed Carless in the first round, while Shaun Michael was equally impressive dominating every round against his heavier opponent Louie Sage, and taking a unanimous points win.

Adam and Jason Both Lose Out in Irlam ON Friday evening 17-year-old Adam Ridge was unlucky to lose his NW Region Light Welterweight Belt when outpointed by split decision against the home club's Luke Evans.

A very close bout which saw Adam forcing the bout throughout with heavy combinations, while Evans moved and threw clusters of shots, the judges seeing Evans as the winner.

Fifteen-year-old Jason Weir faced a tough opponent in National Champion William Cawley of Oldham, and despite once again giving his all, taking the final round, lost out by unanimous decision.

Callum In Dominant Win in Middleton TEAM Leigh's 12-year-old light-flyweight Callum Follows produced his best performance so far on Friday evening in Middleton with a classy performance outpointing southpaw Kane Obeng of the home club.
