EAST first team travelled over to Yorkshire and recorded an important win.

East were the better side in the first half after tries from Nicky Ratcliffe, Thomas Gaughan, Thomas Fletcher and Chris Penn with Adam Holland adding three goals and a drop goal to give the visitors a 23-0 lead at the break.

But the hosts’ fight back started immediately in the second half seeing East narrowly hold on in the final moments to win.

AN under-strength East team came up against one of the front runners for the league and were on the wrong end of the score line, their only try coming from Gary Hopkins and a goal from Ben Balmer.

EAST’s silly errors in the game cost them as Wigan St Jude's ran out 34-22 winners.

Good performances from Jay Yarwood, who got player of the match, but was run close again by Pat Rainford.

Leigh East u15s 48 Cadishead Rhinos 0

EAST carried on their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a comfortable win against Cadishead.

Dale Whitworth grabbed four tries, Corey Hamer, Dec Almond, Connor Wilcock, Yoann Muya and Brad Whelan, who also added six goals, to help East go three points clear at the top of the table.

Chorley Panthers 24 Leigh East u14 6

THE 14s came up against a big Chorley side and despite a spirited second half performance were beaten 24-6.

Chorley went in leading 18-0 at the break and despite some great defence East were only able to score a penalty try through Louis Brogan converted by Ryan Horne.

The coaching staff are pleased with the lads’ progression in a tough league but they are just lacking the self belief and confidence in themselves.

UNDER 13s again raced out to an 18-point lead only to be clawed back and pipped 20-18.

EAST let their heads go down when the score was level.

Try scorers were Harry Stevenson, three with conversions from Callum Hughes and Jack Holland.

EAST under 10s got off to a slow start which put them on the back foot straight away.

In the second half Leigh East started to get a bit of a foothold in the game with some strong running and a bit more determination in defence which created tries for Caleb Wallace and Tyler Caldwell.

THE under nines went down to a strong running Rylands team, the East backs matched their counterparts but Rylands had a huge set of strong running forwards.

A SUPER display from the under sevens, although they had to work hard to break a very strong defence.

Hard, direct running enabled East to break through and put six tries on the score sheet, five coming from Brody Allred and one from Jasper Cockle.

A fearless tackle from Ashton Morris won the best tackle award, with player of the match going to Luke Thorpe.
