ATHERTON’S Alice Fitton scooped the British Junior crown at the GB Open Modern Pentathlon Championships in Solihull on Sunday.
The 19-year-old topped the leaderboard in the women’s competition after the 200m freestyle swim.
Fresh from winning individual silver at the European Junior Championships a week ago, she clocked a time of 2:05.28 for 324 pentathlon points, giving her an eight-point lead over London 2012 Olympic silver medallist Samantha Murray.
Hungary’s Tamara Alekszejev recovered to take a six-point advantage after the fencing and following the showing jumping went into the run/shoot with a 23-second lead over Fitton.
But it was Murray who fought back to finish nine seconds clear of Alekszejev to see Fitton finish third, enough to become British Junior champion.
