ASTLEY and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway Club will host a Go-Ride Tour on Tuesday in a bid to get youngsters involved in the sport.

Co-ordinated by British Cycling and in celebration of the Tour de France, the event aims to give local children a chance to try their first bike race.

A&T’s Mick Hack said: “It’s such an exciting summer for cycling, with the greatest road race in history coming to the UK.

“We saw from the Olympics that events like this inspire so many young people to get on their bikes and we want to provide an opportunity for them to experience the thrill of racing."

“We look forward to welcoming lots of new riders to our Go-Ride Tour race, which will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of the year for the club.”

Registration closes at 6.30pm and costs £3.50 including bike and helmet hire, all riders must be fully-covered from the neck down and accompanied by an adult.

All youngsters across the area are welcome to turn up and take part in the bike race, which will take place on Tuesday, July 8, at the Astley & Tyldesley Miners' Welfare Club, Meanley Road, Gin Pit, Tyldesley, M29 7DW.
