EAST welcomed Premier Division side Chorley Panthers in the Lancashire Cup second round and gave them a real shock but were just pipped at the post.

It was the visitors who started quickest grabbing an early try, but it was East that were the better side throughout.

They built pressure to score two tries through Daniel Surridge who went over from close range and Brad Whelan, who intercepted and went 80 metres to score.

East went further ahead in the second half with Connor Wilcock scoring an excellent try in the corner against the opposition’s wishes, but the visitors came back to snatch the win in the final moments.

A FANTASTIC display of rugby saw honours even at the final whistle.

The East team worked well as a unit, gaining good field position and a well-worked set play saw Liam Ogden go over for the first try.

Storm pushed back into the game scoring just before the half time whistle to even the score line.

In the second half, both teams exploded from the blocks and matched each other set for set.

Great defensive work was forcing errors from Storm, which saw momentum swing and Leon Molyneaux went over to score East’s second try.

Overall a strong team performance with some spirited individual displays.
