LEIGH East got back to winning ways after a superb first-half performance from half back Adam Holland, who scored four tries and three goals to take the man-of-the-match award after only being on the field 45 minutes.

Further tries from Ben Horan, two, Ryan Peters, two, Dean Balmer and Craig Wingfield, with Peters also adding four goals to seal the win for East.

Leigh Miners 24 Leigh East u18 40

EAST got off to a slow start going down 4-0, but soon took the lead through tries by Morgan Fearnley, Dan Grainey and Jordan Haggerty, with Tom Worthington kicking a goal.

Good rugby from Leigh Miners got them back into the game and at half time the game was 14 all.

But from the restart Pat Rainford darted in for two quick tries which were goaled by Tom Worthington, who also added a penalty goal to put East 14 points clear.

Miners threatened to pull the game back, scoring two tries, but with Morgan Fearnley's second try of the game and Chris Dootson's last-minute try East sealed the win.

Rainford picked up man-of-the-match but was pushed by Jack Hansen, Tom Worthington and Jordan Haggerty.

Leigh East u15 18 Chorley Panthers 22

EAST welcomed Premier Division side Chorley Panthers in the Lancashire Cup second round and gave them a real shock but were just pipped at the post.

It was the visitors who started quickest grabbing an early try, but it was East that were the better side throughout.

They built pressure to score two tries through Daniel Surridge who went over from close range and Brad Whelan, who intercepted and went 80 metres to score.

East went further ahead in the second half with Connor Wilcock scoring an excellent try in the corner against the opposition’s wishes, but the visitors came back to snatch the win in the final moments.

Leigh East u14 20 Thatto Heath Crusaders 38

THE under 14s took on Thatto Heath.

The game was played at really high tempo with both teams scoring great tries.

Some great performances within the East side, especially Cole Bretherton.

Leigh East u12 6 Chorley Panthers 32

EAST started well but then struggled to contain Chorley in defence.

Try scorer was Harry Stevenson, conversion Jack Holland.

Leigh East u11 12 Newton Storm 12

A FANTASTIC display of rugby saw honours even at the final whistle.

The East team worked well as a unit, gaining good field position and a well-worked set play saw Liam Ogden go over for the first try.

Storm pushed back into the game scoring just before the half time whistle to even the score line.

In the second half, both teams exploded from the blocks and matched each other set for set.

Great defensive work was forcing errors from Storm, which saw momentum swing and Leon Molyneaux went over to score East’s second try.

Overall a strong team performance with some spirited individual displays.

LEIGH East under10s played at the Culcheth Eagles fun day on Sunday.

East lost 3-0 in their first game against Culcheth then lost 3-2 against Wigan St Pats.

The last game was against Wigan St Cuthberts which was East’s original fixture.

East lost 3-2 but it was a good game, end-to-end rugby with good defence from both sides.

The Leigh East boys and girls played really well.

A FULL-LENGTH try saw Callum Hadcroft get his first score of the season and Cai O'Brian crashed through two defenders from short distance.

A close-run game saw some good passing from East and a good end-to-end game.

Player-of-the-match Callum Hadcroft, best run Cai Obrian, best tackle Jacob Hardy, most improved Callum Dean.

ONCE again a hard-fought victory away from home for East.

Each week the children are working hard to improve their game.

This is demonstrated by quick play the ball, finding space and more passing.
