GIRLS’ cricket at Leigh CC continues to grow with a number of Lionesses teams now competing on a regular basis.

Leigh now have girls’ sides playing in boys’ leagues at under nines and under 11s level, as well as under 10s and under 13s teams competing in the Lancashire and Cheshire Girls’ League, respectively.

Karen Brereton, head of Leigh CC women and girls’ cricket, said: “Our under 13s girls are currently top of the Cheshire League and face Appleton on Saturday in what could end up being a decider for the title.

“In this team are a number of girls who currently represent Lancashire and Cheshire at county and district level.

“We are also proud to have girls in this age group who, at 10 years old, are playing a number of years 'young', yet more than holding their own.

“Our under 11s team won their first ever game in the boys’ league last week and backed that up with a second win in as many weeks away at Norley Hall.

“Our under 10s and under nines teams are improving week-on-week and we look to have a number of girls developing into very promising players.”

Leigh welcome players of all ability and train at the club on Friday nights, 6pm.
