Colls 3 Rhyl 2 They concluded their pre-season by entertaining Welsh Premier League side Rhyl, who led by ex-professional and Atherton local Greg Strong narrowly missed out on a Europa League place last season.

Colls led 2-1 at the break, with Jack Kenny scoring a solo goal before Ben Hardcastle doubled the lead. The visitors pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time.

Jake Patton made it 3-1 and although Rhyl pulled another goal back Colls deserved the victory.

It was a tremendous effort from Michael Clegg's men and the players deserved the rapturous applause they received at the end of the game.

Whitley Bay 2 Colls 0 Colls’ pre-season schedule also took them to the Northumberland seaside town of Whitley Bay, where they slipped to defeat.

The hosts had won the FA Vase on four occasions and as regular top three finishers in the Northern League proved too strong for Colls..

The visitors were a goal down inside two minutes but rallied to dominate possession.

The second half was very close with Colls continuing to play some good football, but Bay increased their lead after 70 minutes.
