ASTLEY and Tyldesley hosted the under 10s and under 16s Manchester League Individual Finals at Gin Pit on Wednesday.

Rain fell during the evening, but the track drained well and was in a really good condition as Astley and Tyldesley enjoyed a double success with winners in both finals.

In the under 10s match, A&T's John White and Joe Quarmby started off with impressive wins, while Luke Hill led Bury's Daniel Miller until the last half lap in heat three.

White pulled away to beat Miller convincingly in heat seven and recorded his personal best time, when winning heat 12. Quarmby also reeled off two more wins.

Heat 13 was an important race, when the two unbeaten riders met and Quarmby had to record a personal best time to power round John White on the last half lap to take the win.

Miller won his next two races to keep up the pressure. White won his last race in another quick time to finish on 19 points.

The title-decider came in heat 20, when Daniel Miller lined up on the inside of Joe Quarmby. The Bury rider made the start, with Quarmby chasing hard all the way.

The pressure paid off, when Quarmby powered round on the outside on the last bend to take the race win and the title with a 20 points maximum score.

Joe Quarmby and seven-year-old John White were clearly the two fastest riders on view, regularly posting winning times three to four seconds quicker than the rest of the field.

They deservedly took winner and runner-up spot respectively.

Pollitt was in a strong position to retain the title he won last year and he duly obliged with comfortable wins in his last two races.
