A ST Ambrose Primary School pupil raced to two titles this week as well as adding a national third place.

Tom Whitwam became the Manchester League under 13s champion, the Northern Grand Prix under 13s champion and finished on the podium in the British National competition at Wolverhampton.

The 10-year-old was presented with the Manchester League champion trophy on Wednesday at Stockport after the six round, 24-race event came to a conclusion.

On Saturday, the Astley-based rider was racing in the penultimate round of the British Youth National on the biggest track in the UK.

Whitwam had a second place and three wins in his heats which was enough to once again secure an A final place.

He drew the unlucky gate four for the final, but a stunning pass saw him secure third place to extend his third place position in the UK overall.

The very next day Whitwam was racing in round five of the Northern Grand Prix at Heckmondwicke, which features riders from across the North of England.

The youngster put in a fantastic display to win every race and gain the maximum 16 points – and seal the championship with one round remaining.

Whitwam will be competing in the final British National round in Wales later this month.
