WITH no fixtures for the men’s teams, Miners Rangers women were in action at the weekend and enjoyed a comprehensive win over old rivals Brighouse in their final fixture before the play-offs.

Hooker Rachel Scott opened the scoring when she spotted a gap from dummy half, diving over from close range.

The lead was extended when Emily Mullen broke from her own half, the ball went through several pairs of hands with Keli Morris taking the final pass to score under the posts, Mullen converted to take the score to 10-0.

The attacking play continued and the lead was extended when Emma Hodgson was on hand to support a break from Celia Farrimond.

Rachel Thompson continued her excellent season with two well taken tries, Mullen converted both to make the score 26-0.

Keli Morris was once again on the end of an excellent attacking move scoring her second try of the game. The ladies led by 30 points at half time following their best display of attacking rugby of the season.

The second half started scrappily, with possession lost on numerous occasions as the ladies tried to score on every play, the scoring was extended when Clare Thompson broke from half way to score under the posts, Mullen converted.

Brighouse finally got on the scoreboard when they forced the ball over the line, following an extended period of possession.

This defensive lapse, refocused the ladies and they finished the game strongly, Clare Thompson scored her second try of the game with a length of the field solo effort.

Hard-running prop forward Nicolette Postlewaite scored when she broke the line from 20 metres out, and the scoring was completed when Mairead Quinn was on hand to complete a good handling move, Mullen converted to make the final score 52-4.

Player of the match went to Emma Hodgson, who also captained the side against her former club.
