LEIGH Centurions half-back Martyn Ridyard is looking for one last push from his team-mates at Leigh Sports Village this Sunday (3.00pm).

Centurions will aim to reach the 2014 Kingstone Press Championship Grand Final at the expense of opponents Dewsbury Rams Ridyard is a nominee for the Kingstone Press Championship Player of the Year award and has been one of the top performing stars for the Centurions in 2014.

“I’m made up with the nomination and to be in the top three players in the league was one of my personal goals at the start of the season,” said Ridyard, who has passed 1,000 career points this summer.

“We’ve done well to go all season and only lose one game. We could have easily lost a few along the way but the squad has been fantastic and really worked hard to prevent that from happening.

“Being a local lad it feels great to be a part of all of this. We really need to win this play-off game and make the final. The fans deserve it.”

The Centurions have been involved in two close games with Dewsbury this season. Ridyard expects Glenn Morrison’s side to be tough opposition after their wins against Workington and Halifax in the play-offs.

“They’re a quality side and Glenn has done a great job during his time at the club,” said Ridyard.

“Some say that their last two results were a shock but I predicted they would get this far. Players like Shane Grady and Karl Pryce on the outside and Anthony Thackeray directing play are going to cause you problems. They have threats all over the field.

“We’ve been preparing well during our week off and making fine tweaks to certain areas Paul Rowley has focussed on. Now that we know our opponents are Dewsbury the planning will really step up ahead of Sunday.

“Fingers crossed we get past the Rams at the weekend and make the final at Headingley. It was an amazing experience last time we played there. We believe in ourselves and the attitude this year is spot on.”
