Cammell Laird 1 Atherton LR 1

LABURNUM Rovers returned from the league leaders with a well-earned point in an eventful match at Kirklands.

Promotion hopefuls Lairds had been rocked by the departure of their manager Tony Sullivan 48 hours previously but they have a strong and experienced squad and drew first blood when Joe Evans fired home from close range from a deflected cross.

Some champagne football drew LR level as Adam McKillop played the one-two with Jack Burke before rampaging down the wing, his inch-perfect cross being converted into the bottom left corner by top scorer Jon Stephenson.

Lairds were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Josh Hart was saw red early in the second half for handball outside the box, and then in the dying stages to nine for a professional foul which LR felt should also have resulted in a penalty.

On Saturday, LR travel to Hanley.
