LEIGH Centurions are looking ahead to a bright future after a stellar 2014 capped off by Sunday’s Championship Grand Final glory night.

With the champions’ prize and bonus cash tucked away for safe keeping along with the League Leaders’ Shield and the Under 20s Grand Final silverware, Centurions not involved with international duty head off on their post-season break after a job well done.

With a full-time set-up on the horizon, Centurions will return to training in November with a renewed focus and enthusiasm.

“The future holds this young group staying together, me included and seeing how far we can get,” said head coach Paul Rowley.

“We are like many other clubs in that we are ambitious. We want to get to the promised land. Everyone wants to play against the elite and that elite is Super League.

“If you were to ask me will we get it next year? I think it’s going to be pretty difficult. We are realists as well.”

Rugby League’s new era kicks off in 2015 with the Championship and Super League playing their weekly rounds before splitting into three mini divisions of eight clubs.

All eyes are set to be on the middle eight, where Leigh are hoping to be playing, mixing their exciting brand of rugby with the lower end Super League clubs.

“We want to cement our place in the top 16 of rugby league – and we are currently in that. We will try and improve steadily. This group probably has five years together.

With a few key additions each year, we are not far off.

“We are not far off some of those bottom end Super League sides. I think they’d be worried if they were getting us in a cup match for example.

“The club has made a good move in going full-time to bridge that gap.

"It is a bit of a halfway house if you like. We are progressing the business and the sky is the limit. We are all ambitious but I think we are all a capable outfit.”

Leigh will have renewed vigour in 2015 when Sam Hopkins, Tommy Goulden and Tom Spencer all return to training following their operations.

All three forwards are set to be fit by the time action kicks off again in January.

The club have also just boosted their squad with the capture of Greg Worthington from Featherstone Rovers, while Jake Emmit (Wales) as well as Sam Barlow and Jonathan Walker (Scotland) will be flying the flag for Leigh and benefiting from appearances in the forthcoming European Championship.

With season ticket prices having been released, Leigh are well placed to kick on with business.
