Atherton Community Girls' football team won the Wigan area Year 7 round robin tournament
ATHERTON Community Girls’ football team are the new Wigan area Year 7 champions.
They won six and drew one of their matches in the seven-match round robin tournament, conceding just a single goal.
The team, captained by Daniela Webster, included sisters Sian and Taylor Ridyard, Olivia Brooks, Sophie Whittle, Angela Aboagye and Dawn Monaghan.
Sports teacher Laura Williams said: “The team was formed a few weeks ago and we have only had a few training sessions.
"The girls’ sportsmanship and team ethic was unbelievable considering they are so young.”
