WIGAN and Leigh College’s sport teams are flying high after reaching 2015 unbeaten in league and cup competitions.
The College's football and rugby development squads are enjoying fine spells of form, each sitting top of their respective divisions.
The Rugby Development Squad recently enjoyed an emphatic 52-6 victory over Runshaw College, having previously beaten Winstanley College 70-0 and Salford City College 40-14.
Victories in the next two games could see the Leigh Sports Village based team lift the league title before they gear up for the semi-final of the North West Cup against last year’s winners Hopwood Hall.
Meanwhile, the College’s U17 football side have won six and drawn one of their seven league games so far and are six points clear of second-placed Warrington Collegiate.
The College’s U19s are also going well having enjoyed an unbeaten run since late September.
Rugby coach Gareth Hayes said: “The rugby and football development squads allow the players to focus on their sport while still gaining a recognised vocational qualification that could progress them onto university or employment.
“In September, we hope to build on our successes by bringing in some of the best young players across the borough having recently launched a Centre of Sporting Excellence.”
To find out more about the Centre of Sporting Excellence, visit Wigan & Leigh College’s Open Evening on Monday February 2 (5pm to 8pm) at Sale Way.
