TYLDESLEY moved up to second in South Lancs and Cheshire Division Two for the first time this season, after producing arguably their best all-round team performance of the campaign.

All 10 of their tries in the 60-5 win at Ashton-on-Mersey came as a result of solid set plays, excellent backing up and brilliant handling while defensively they were solid against a side that battled.

Tyldesley should have scored as early as the eighth minute when a good tackle held up Tom Lloyd over the line, but a minute later Gavin Hunter ran in the opening try.

Hunter notched his second three minutes later and with only 20 minutes gone he completed his first ever Tyldesley hat-trick, all as a result of swift handling.

Carl Redford crossed for Tyldesley’s bonus point try in the 23rd minute after good hands from Danny Kilshaw and Mark Dickinson created the opening.

Kilshaw converted and although Tyldesley were in control, they were frustrated by some excellent defensive work.

Conor Johnson’s pass sent Redford in for his second try four minutes into the second half and although Ashton responded with a try on 50 minutes, Tyldesley began to turn the screw.

Excellent forward pick and drives resulted in Lee Davies crossing for a good score and more pressure from the forwards brought a penalty try on the hour.

Martin Wallbank linked up to deliver the pass for Lloyd to score his first try of the match three minutes later, and his second came soon after with man-of-the-match Paul Martin and Kilshaw, who converted four of the second-half tries, involved in the build-up.

Dean Brown scored Tyldesley’s 10th try when the forwards drove a scrum over the line.
