SNOWBOARDER Nicole Haines picked up two medals in her debut at the British National Alpine Ski Championships in Tignes, France.

The 10-year-old Astley schoolgirl earned a silver in slopestyle and bronze in bordercross before just missing out on a medal in the halfpipe.

It was a fantastic performance for the youngster, building on her gold medal in the English Under-12s Slopestyle Championships last year.

“I put down two great runs in the slopestyle, my first being my safe run and my second more daring,” said Nicole, who had to contend with snowy conditions in what is her favourite event.

“I had been training for two weeks in Pila (Italy) for this day and was desperate to hit the black kickers.

“Unfortunately, Mother Nature was not on my side, it was snowing really heavily and the course ran too slow for me to get the speed to hit the blacks!

“But I hit a perfect 180 off the blue kicker and had two really clean runs landing everything. I bagged silver so I was super stoked.

“It was a fab week, loads of fun, meeting some amazing true friends and I look forward to the next Brits.”
