GARETH Hock will make his much-awaited Leigh Centurions debut against Workington on Easter Monday, coach Paul Rowley has confirmed.

The controversial summer signing will serve the final game of a seven-match ban tomorrow, when Centurions travel to Hunslet, before being thrown straight into action with the Championship leaders.

If all goes well, Hock will be free to lock horns with former side Salford Red Devils when the Super League outfit visit Leigh Sports Village on Saturday, April 18, for their televised fifth-round Challenge Cup clash.

"Gaz Hock will play on Monday,” said Rowley. “He's a fresh pair of legs coming in and everyone is looking forward to his debut.”

Not that Centurions are crying out for reinforcements after setting a new club record winning streak with a 66-0 demolition of Whitehaven last weekend.

That was their 17th straight victory and Rowley admits that the games cannot come fast enough at the moment.

While many teams and coaches are busy preparing their excuses and moans about the traditional Easter schedule, the Leigh coach is relishing playing two games in four days.

“We have no injury concerns,” he said. “I’ve had 28 fit players this week. Everyone is available; including Adam Higson. We could pretty much put out two teams this week and are really looking forward to Easter.

“We’ve not got duals so we are masters of our own destiny, our physios do a great job and they make sure that everyone where possible is available for selection. I don’t see a problem with this time of year to be honest. You obviously reduce the training.

“The problems come on collision and impact so you make sure that you’ve got enough forwards to freshen up. We are looking forward to it and are not fazed at all.”

Assistant coach Neil Jukes was put in charge of the build-up and preparation of the players for the Whitehaven game and Rowley said everyone responded.

“It’s working top to bottom at the club at the minute," he added.

“Sometimes it’s refreshing for everyone; a different voice. It just reinforces that we are all on the same page and we cover every position. It’s like when we talk about rotating players.”

Rowley is looking forward to the trip to Hunslet (kick off 2pm), but remains wary of the opposition side, despite only winning two of their opening six fixtures.

“They have a couple of notable scalps already in Dewsbury and Doncaster and they haven’t been too far away in a couple of other games,” he said.

“There is some talent in their squad. There is also the challenge of playing at their ground. It’s a soulless place."

Hock et al will then return home for the visit of Workington on Monday, kick off 1.30pm.

“We know the qualities of Workington, they are a good team with international players such as Callum Phillips and Jarrad Stack is a fantastic player, but we haven't lost at home in nearly 18 months and it doesn't faze us," added Rowley.

"We will accept the challenge and give them the respect they deserve. We respect everyone that we play.”

Tickets are now on sale for the Centurions's Challenge Cup clash at home to the Salford Red Devils, which will be televised live on Sky and kick off at 2.35pm.

Leigh Miners Rangers will then take on York City Knights at Leigh Sports Village in the same competition the following day, Sunday April 19, kick off 2pm.
