LEIGH Miners Rangers maintained their perfect start to the NCL Premier Division campaign against basement club Wath Brow with an ultimately comprehensive 32-8 victory.

They had to battle hard to gain a foothold in the game as Brow kept Miners at bay in the opening 30 minutes.

But the two quick tries before the break broke the Cumbrians' resistance.

Scott O'Brien followed up his own kick behind the Brow lines to open the scoring, Jimmy Muir goaling, before tries from Tommy Parkinson and Brad Hargreaves were followed up by extras from Tony Doyle.

Miners opened the second half determinedly but Brow continued to defend resolutely until a fine Harry Gagen break put the immense Danny Jackson over for his first try.

Jackson added his second just five minutes later as he stretched over the line before Doyle's chip over the defensive line was gathered by O'Brien to storm in for his second.

Brow finished strongly with two late tries.

Tom Farrimond claimed a hat-trick of tries as Miners' Alliance team enjoyed a 42-10 win at Widnes Tigers, with Sam Shepherd (two), Neil Shackloth and Garry Fitzmartin also scoring.

The Under-18s went down to a narrow defeat at Clock Face while the women were 50-6 winners against Rochdale Hornets.

The first team entertain Division Two side Underbank Rangers in the first round of the Conference Trophy on Saturday, kick off 2.30pm. The U18s travel to Rochdale Mayfield on Sunday.
