REIGNING champions Astley and Tyldesley maintained their 100 per cent record in Manchester League Division Two with a second straight victory.

After winning the overall prize in the opening round of the competition they followed that up with another victory at Bury in the Manchester League Grand Prix Series.

Joe Quarmby raced unbeaten in the under-10s match, holding off strong competition from team-mate John White in heat 17.

There were also great showings by Charlie Burgess, Jack Murray and Jack Littler for A&T in the u10s match.

Max Evans raced unbeaten for the second successive round in the u13s and Reece Pollitt dropped just two points in the u19s event.

Astley and Tyldesley were third overall in the Manchester League Division One match, which was won by hosts Bury.

Reece Pollitt again top scored for A&T, which inspired some determined riding from his team mates.

Stockport's Ben Higham was the leading rider in the fixture, top scoring for the second successive round, this time with a maximum.

His performance helped to pip A&T to second place.

Tyldesley cycle speedway riders have also been busy racing for other clubs.

Laura Watson, aged 20, finished fourth in a high-quality field in the Ladies Dash Trophy at Wednesfield.

The top four finishers included the reigning British and Welsh champion, a former national indoor champion and Watson, a former world champion.

Watson, riding for her club Leicester Monarchs, impressed the watching GB manager and coach, who are due to make their selections for the Ladies GB Lions squad to face Australia at the forthcoming World Championship Ashes series.

The Tyldesley racer has previously represented the England junior and senior GB teams in two World Championships, in 2011 and 2013.

Tom Whitwam also claimed his second successive victory racing for Sheffield Stars in the British Youth and Junior League at Hull.

The 11-year-old won all four of his races in the heats of the under-13s competition before adding to his victory in the opening round of the competition to remain top with two rounds remaining.

He has now qualified for the national British youth competition, which start in Poole at the end of June.
