A FORMER Astley and Tyldesley cricketer caught the eye for Lancashire Under-11s girls team recently.

Amelia McKeown, aged 11, took 7-20 off five overs against Staffordshire as the Red Rose side wrapped up a five wicket win.

Her former Astley and Tyldesley coach Paul Finch said: “Amelia has done superbly and exceptionally well. She started aged between three and four-years-old and played with her brothers down at the club.

“She played for the Under-9s and has a great bowling action.

“I was always impressed by how she held her own in terms of line and length.

“I think she qualified for Lancashire with us.”

McKeown has moved on to play for Leigh as they have a girls set-up.

Finch added: “She played for Lancashire and met a few of her Leigh team-mates there.

“I think she is going to go on in the women’s structure and play for Lancashire more often.

“I am sure she will keep on performing and to get seven wickets is a great achievement.”

McKeown left A&T to move to Leigh CC.
