REECE Pollitt and Ciaran Collins flew the flag for Astley and Tyldesley Cycle Speedway as well as their countries when the two young riders took part in a junior home international at Ipswich.

Both Gin Pit youngsters made their international debuts in the event, with Pollitt, aged 17, excelling for England and Collins, 15, battling hard for Ireland.

Pollitt scored an impressive 15 points, winning three races and coming second in his other race, while Collins, a St. Mary's High School pupil from Hindsford, competed well against some strong opposition.

England ran out convincing winners, while Scotland pipped Wales for second place.

Elsewhere, the Gin Pit hosted round four of the A&T Go-Ride Grand Prix series.

Nine riders contested the event on a very boggy track after torrential downpours just prior to the meeting.

As always, a handicap system was in operation to give the younger riders a sporting chance of success on the night.

Frank White, aged four, took full advantage of that opportunity to record a 16-point maximum score and win the round.

Second place went to Harry Goodier with a very respectable 14 points in tough conditions.

Charlie Burgess and John White, both eight, had a race off for third place, with White joining his younger brother on the podium.
