MINERS Rangers went down to a crushing 64-4 defeat in Cumbria as in-form Wath Brow ruthlessly racked up the points on a chastening afternoon for the Leigh side.

Despite the best efforts of Tommy Parkinson, Miners, who only trailed 12-0 at the interval, were put to the sword in the second half.

A late try prevented the whitewash but this was another afternoon to forget at one of the club’s least-happy hunting grounds.

The Alliance side lost narrowly at Bury Broncos 30-26 and on Sunday the Women’s team were beaten heavily at one of the traditional powerhouses of the ladies’ game, Bradford Thunderbirds, 62-0.

The bright point came from the under-18s who won 48-4 against Bank Quay Bulls. Jake Lloyd scored a hat-trick with Alex Riley Prince touching down twice.

Connor Evans, Jamie King, Jacob Marsden and Keiron Seddon were the other try-scorers with Zac Fagan kicking five goals and Jake Ford one.

On Saturday it’s another tough trip for the first team, away to Siddal, whilst the Alliance side host Rochdale Mayfield (2.30pm).

On Sunday the Women’s team travel to old rivals Brighouse Rangers whilst the Under-18s are away to Crosfields.
