LEIGH Centurions resume their quest for Super League on Sunday with a warning from one of the supposed whipping boys of the Middle 8s.

With four games left and second bottom of the competition, it’s now or never for Paul Rowley’s Centurions.

After coming out second best against Hull KR, Salford and Wakefield, Leigh’s next three fixture pit them against fellow Championship opposition including this weekend’s opponents, Sheffield Eagles.

Mark Aston’s nomadic Yorkshire outfit were dismissed twice during the regular campaign as Leigh stormed to the League Leaders’ Shield.

But they won a thriller last time out against Halifax at Doncaster and experienced prop Mitch Stringer insists it won’t be their last victory before the squad is broken up in readiness for full-time rugby in 2016.

“We have targeted three or four wins out of the Middle 8s,” says the former Salford Red Devils front rower ahead of the clash at Leigh Sports Village. “So, we want to be in that million-pound game.

“We’ve achieved every target we have set ourselves this year, so there is no reason we can’t achieve this one and get in the million-pound game.

“We’re always confident in every game, the coaching staff are really good they know how to work us and when to work us,” adds hard man Stringer

“We’re confident and hoping we can go out there and win two or three more games and we are looking forward to playing at Bramall Lane and back in Sheffield.”

Leigh, whose last win was a 66-10 thrashing of bottom of the table Doncaster on July 26, beat Eagles 36-22 and 58-18.

Since then Sheffield have announced they will be going full time next year resulting in this week’s confirmation of the departures of a large chunk of their playing staff.

As a result:Eddie Battye, Dom Brambani, James Davey, Jamie Langley, Ben Musolino, Sam Smeaton, Loto Tagaloa, Tony Tonks, Scott Turner and Pat Walker will be leaving once the season finishes.

“If we had done it in the season I don’t think we would have finished where we have done,” says Aston.

“If I had done at the end of the season that would have been disrespectful to the players because they have to find other clubs.?“Now, we’ll have a tear at the end of the season.”

Leigh will be without suspended Kurt Haggerty and Sam Hopkins is an injury doubt but hope to have Gareth Hock available after recent knee surgery.
