LEIGH can secure top tier safety on Saturday with victory at home to rivals Wallasey in the penultimate game of the Liverpool Competition season.
Matt McKiernan’s men fell to a 52-run defeat at home to Premier League leaders New Brighton at the weekend, but remain fourth-bottom, 15 points clear of the drop zone.
A win against third-bottom Wallasey would ensure nervous spectators on their final day trip to high-fliers Formby can put away their calculators and enjoy the season finale.
An unbeaten 61 from middle-order batsman Upal Fernando proved the difference for New Brighton on Saturday.
The Leigh bowlers restricted the visitors to 195-9 declared from 59.4 overs as Karl Brown (2-36), Hedley Molyneux (2-27) and McKiernan (2-42) each took two wickets apiece.
But they were unable to get close to the total, as Ross Zelem (33), Thomas Foster (28) and Matthew Hibbert (27) were unable to convert starts into a match-winning innings.
David White took 4-34 and Ashraf Nawab claimed 4-61 to bowl out Leigh for 143 in 45.5 overs.
