TYLDESLEY moved up to fifth place in the North Lancs/Cumbria Division following a 33-18 win at Ashton under Lyne.

The victory against an awkward and resilient Ashton team earned Bongs a welcome bonus-point.

They are now just a point behind Bolton in fourth, who they entertain on Saturday.

Tyldesley scored twice in the opening 15 minutes, which they spent camped in the Ashton half.

Kris Kirkpatrick gathered his own kick before touching down to open the scoring, while Lee Davies stepped over in the 12th minute following a solid driving maul. Martin Wallbank converted both.

After a slow start, Ashton took control of the remainder of the half but only had five points to show for their dominance by the break.

An early penalty brought them to within six points of Bongs, before man-of-the-match Damien Twizell blasted his way through the home defence for an unconverted try on 56 minutes.

Dean Brown came out of the sin bin after picking up a yellow card to score a fourth, bonus-point converted try for Tyldesley, taking the ball from the back of the scrum before shrugging off a number of tackles in a 20-metre break for the line.

The visitors were once again reduced to 14 for the final 10 minutes after Conor Norton picked up a yellow card.

But Ashton were only able to add a single try and Jordan Kelly restored Bongs advantage with a superb individual converted try - his first for the club.

The home side replied with a third try of their own in the final play.
