ASTLEY and Tyldesley cycle speedway club ran out easy winners in both matches in the final Northern League fixture of the season at Heckmondwike on Sunday.

A resounding 143-48 for the third team was enough to secure a third straight Division Three title.

John White raced to a 16-point maximum score, with Nathan Holt claiming 14 points in his first ever match.

A&T scored solidly throughout, with all 14 riders making a valuable contribution to the league title win.

The first team also rode to a comfortable 88-59 victory in their Division One match.

They got their noses in front with a 6-3 win in the first race before quickly pulling clear to open up a commanding 15-point lead after only five races, and they never looked back.

Basement club Heckmondwike's only heat win came late on in the match when A&T fielded both reserves.

Damian Zareba, Reece Pollitt and Paul Graham all raced unbeaten.

Ciaran Collins made an impressive return from injury, winning his opening three races, with the rest of the team providing solid back up.

The result ensured A&T finished fourth in the league.

Elsewhere, Gareth Paine capped off a great first full season in cycle speedway by winning the Northern Division Two Grand Prix series.

And a great week for the club was capped off by news that they had once more achieved Sport England's Clubmark, a status the club has enjoyed since 2005.
