LEIGH East A were unable to cap a fine season with victory in the Grand Final after falling to a 28-6 defeat against Pilkington Recs A.
East were trailing 22-0 when Billy Aldred got them on the scoresheet.
But after his try was converted by Tom Worthington they were unable to mount a fightback as Pilkington added another score to seal victory in front of an appreciative crowd at Widnes’s Select Security Stadium.
Despite the disappointing end to their season, East still have plenty to celebrate after securing promotion to Division Two of the North West Men’s League following their second place finish behind Pilkington in the table.
The first team narrowly missed out on promotion from NCL Division Two the previous weekend, but they still had members in competition at the weekend.
Sam Grainey and Dean Balmer played in Lancashire’s 28-16 Roses victory over Yorkshire, with Grainey running in a try and named man of the match.
