A LEIGH East player has been on tour with England Lions Rugby League team.

Adam Wilkes capped off an impressive season with the club and was selected to go to South Africa and he follows in the footsteps of club captain Dean Balmer who went to the same place with the British Amateur Rugby League Association last month.

Wilkes started the first game in the bench during their win against South Africa Youth but was ruled out of the second game through injury.

This is the most successful season that Adam has had after picking up the young player of the year for Leigh East.

Club chairman Dave Coyle said: " Adam had represented the club for a number of years and has thoroughly deserved his selection to the English Lions squad and it makes us proud as a club to support him."

Head coach Paul Wingfield added: "Adam has trained well all season and it came as no surprise to me when he was selected, he has been a dominant force for East all season so him doing it for his country is a great outcome for us as a club."
