TYLDESLEY came up just short against an Aldwinians side, losing at home 13-8 with the visitors defending well.

With a couple of senior players back for this game and another debutant, in the form of young Matthew Woodward, who had a good first outing for the team, it was hoped a slightly stronger team the previous weeks, could secure the points, but it wasn’t to be.

The heavy and very wet conditions dominated how this game would be played, although the hosts tried to move the ball around at times, as though it was a summer’s day, which ultimately cost them the chance of recording points.

Tyldesley’s forwards gained good yardage via excellent pick and drives, giving them relatively good field positions, but possession was lost, many times, as the ball failed to go to hand or stick, has it was moved out.

Mark Dickinson gave the hosts the lead after converting a penalty in the tenth minute, Tyldesley continued to press, but failed to reap any rewards.

Against the run of play, on the whole, Aldwinians went in front after they recorded a seven pointer in the twenty fourth minute then extended their lead ten minutes later via a converted penalty.

Aldwinians started the second half on the front foot, which continued for the next twenty five minutes or so, with the hosts struggling to get out of their half, but good defence restricted the visitors to just three points, after they converted a second penalty, 22 minutes in.

Just as in the first half, and with thirteen minutes remaining, a try came against the run of play, has Tyldesley touched down through Craig Pulman after some very good forward drives, conversion missed.

From this point it was all Tyldesley with Jack Schofield collecting a kick to touch down but an unsighted ref, who was also some distance away, disallowed it. Lee Davies cut through, but possession was lost, yards from the line.
