LEIGH Miners Rangers made it an emphatic first league win in West Cumbria in over a decade as they ruthlessly dismantled Egremont 40-6 at Gillfoot Park.

The visitors made it two wins from two at the start of this campaign thanks to a power-packed performance, leading 16-0 at the break and never allowing their hosts the opportunity to find a way back in to the contest at they piled the points on after the restart.

That first half advantage was carved out with tries from Andrew Groves, Tommy Parkinson and Lee Gittins, Ian Mort with two goals, and then although Egremont did manage to find a way through early in the second half further scores from Danny Halliwell, on debut, Jimmy Muir, Scott O’Brien and two late touchdowns for Connor Partington gave Miners an overwhelming victory.

The Alliance side went down to a strong Mayfield side 48-18.

The under-18s lost narrowly to the always-strong Thatto Heath 22-14, the scores locked at the break at 14-14 with Miners’ tries from Todd Fenlon (2) and Lewis Grimes, Zack Fagan with the goal.

There are no fixtures over Easter weekend with the next first team game being 2nd April at home to York Acorn.
