Tyldesley 7 St Benedicts 52

TYLDESLEY put in a brave effort but superior quality told against a St Benedicts side who have lost only once this season.

The visitors, who look on course to win the RFU North Lancs/Cumbria Division, had to repel pressure from a spirited home side but they punished any mistake that was made, scoring several long-range breakaway tries to keep up their excellent season so far.

The game also had to be moved to another pitch after an injury to a Tyldesley player required an ambulance.

Tyldesley now sit ninth in the division, but the sides below them are creeping ever closer and they go into a tense final three games just five points clear of Silloth, who occupy the final relegation spot and who Tyldesley travel to play next week.

On top of the long-range tries they scored, St Benedicts showed they could play close to the home line as well by scoring some well-worked tries as they racked up a 42-point lead at the break.

The home side continued to battle through the adversity and eventually got themselves on the board midway through the second half through an Eddie Wallbank try, with Martin Wallbank adding the conversion.
