Carlisle 10 Leigh RUFC 14
LEIGH secured their North One West status with a crucial win that relegated their beleaguered hosts Carlisle.
The visitors had to survive intense pressure as the hosts, desperate for a win that would keep their season alive, pounded away at the line but two Ollie Shepherd tries stole the points in Cumbria.
Some dogged and committed defence from Leigh kept Carlisle at bay before they scored with their first trip into home territory.
They cleverly worked an overlap on the right which allowed Shepherd to step his way over for a try converted by Elliot Ryan.
Carlisle reduced the arrears with a penalty to make the half-time score 7-3.
The hosts kept up the pressure in the second half and edged ahead.
Leigh responded when good work from the forwards led to Shepherd diving over.
