NEIL Jukes is tired of using the F-word when it comes to assessing Leigh’s performances so far this term.

And the Centurions’ boss admits failure now to resolve the issues could comeback to haunt his team during the end of season Middle 8s.

Leigh return to action against Oldham on May 15 top of the Championship, unbeaten in 11 league games.

But Jukes knows there is more to come. “If you speak to all the players and the coaches, they would use the same word, ‘frustrating,’ he confirmed.

“The amount of individual errors is killing us at the moment and stopping us building any kind of pressure as a team.”

Two late tries enabled Centurions to come from behind to beat Batley Bulldogs 37-30 at Leigh Sports Village last Sunday.

“I am a realist and I know if we come up with that level of performance in a Middle 8s fixture, we won’t be in a position to pull it back because the distance will be too far gone,” admitted Jukes.

“We’ve got to keep challenging how far we want to push ourselves and our boundaries.

“We have got to start being more consistent and we have all got to bring our A game.

“However, you can’t question our desire or will to win. And we are not a million miles away but we just need to be a whole lot smarter and patient as a team.”

Last month’s defeat in Toulouse leaves Leigh without a game on Sunday before embarking on four successive away matches starting at Oldham’s Stalybridge base a week on Sunday.

“We weren’t happy getting knocked out of the Challenge Cup but this weekend has come at a good time to have off,” explained Jukes.

“We can freshen up, get some hard work into the players over the next two weeks to set us up for our home straight.

“But we don’t get many weekends off and we do appreciate the commitment the guys show takes a lot of family time away. So, it will do them no harm to have a few days off.”

Jukes, however, got it in the neck after the Batley display-hit during a team paint balling day out! However, he knows the pressure is on to deliver Super League rugby next season.

“I get strongly backed by Derek Beaumont and the Board. But it is a pressure job and you never switch off. We are working harder than ever round the clock to keep standards high on and off the field.

“But it is a very good job even the days when you go home frustrated. It’s the nature of the beast.”

*Leigh’s next home game is against Featherstone on June 12 and fans can soak up some unusual pre-match entertainment after teaming up with the Kittywake Canal Cruise Company.

‘Barging Down t’Middle’ is a two-hour canal cruise, costing £20 for season ticket holders and fans who have purchased tickets for the Rovers’ visit. Tickets, limited to 40, are now on sale and further barge trips are planned.
