TEAM Leigh Boxing’s 13 year old Kyle Parr is the England Boxing National Schoolboy Champion for the second year running.

Parr, who lives in Mersey Street, Leigh and attends Westleigh High School, took the 65kg Class A Title in Grantham, Lincolnshire on Saturday afternoon, beating the very tough Levi Boswell of Kent based Eastern Boxing Club.

Following this success Parr will now attend the England Schoolboys Training Camp in Birmingham with the aim of being selected for the European Schoolboy Championships in July.

Team Leigh boxers Josh Taylor and Matty Walsh travelled to Torun, Poland with an England Select Squad and both produced excellent performances.

Light heavyweight Matty took the Silver medal, while 16-year-old Welterweight Josh won the Gold medal and Boxer of the Tournament trophy.

The past season has seen another successful year for the Scott Street-based Boxing Club, with Callum Ryder reaching the Junior National semi-finals and 10 boxers being crowned North West Champions.

This season has also seen the emergence of many talented newcomers who look set to add to the 250 plus Amateur Titles won by the Club in the past 16 years.

The past season also saw two more Team Leigh boxers, Steve Backhouse and Phil Hervey, joining the Professional ranks
