LEIGH coach Neil Jukes will warn his Kingstone Press Championship table toppers about Sunday’s “desperate” opponents before sending them out to potentially clinch a third successive League Leaders Shield.

And Jukes hopes the Leigh Sports Village’s biggest crowd of the season can roar the Centurions to another piece of silverware.

Victory over visitors Bradford Bulls and defeat for London Broncos at Dewsbury will complete a hat-trick of titles for the Super League hopefuls.

But the Bulls’ desperation comes from a league position of fifth, one point off the top four playing a Leigh side unbeaten in the Championship since the first weekend of the season.

“Potentially, Bradford could be three points adrift of the top four with three games remaining,” said Jukes doing the maths.

“I know where we would be as a club if we were in that position so it can make them very dangerous.

“They have also done swapping and changing with players, they might have some guys coming back from injury so it makes reviewing them difficult.

“For us, it is more important than ever we worry about ourselves and get our performance right.”

Jukes was delighted by Leigh’s travelling support during last Sunday’s 38-12 win at London Broncos. And he hopes for a large turnout this weekend, attracted by seeing their side clinch a trophy.

“The fans last weekend were unbelievable,” he said. “They made it feel like a home game “Hopefully, we can get a really big crowd at the LSV because it will make a difference to us.”

Despite his team’s envious position, Jukes hints there could be additions to his club before the Middle 8’s despite missing out on versatile back Nathan Ross from Newcastle Knights.

“We are like any other club, we recruit as we go for this year and for next,” said Jukes. “We are not desperate but if the right player comes along and I think he can strengthen us I will do it.

“In he wings and centres, we have got five players to cover four spots. So, if we get a couple of injuries we are leaving ourselves a bit vulnerable.

“But a lot of players come and contact us and we don’t take everyone who knocks on the door. However, if it is a good fit we will do it.

“Having said that, Greg Worthington has found some great form and consistency, Liam Kay probably had his best game of the season against the Broncos while Adam Higson has been one of our stand out players this year.”

Jukes was delighted by Leigh’s ending of Broncos’ unbeaten 2016 home record. “We could have led 30-0 at half time and it wouldn’t have been flattering,” he said. “What’s difficult for this group is getting up for every game.

“But that match was billed as a big match and it showed they can rise to the challenge. That’s pleasing because that’s what we will have to do in the next two weeks particularly against Bradford and Halifax.”
